Glock Tactical Light

I was looking to get a tactical light for a Glock. Does anyone have a recommendation? Seems that people tend to go more towards the Insight models rather than the Glock original unit. Is there anything wrong with the Glock light? Thanks.

Great way to let the Bad Guy know where you are and where you are pointing your gun.

:Sorry: separate Surefire light is an alternative...imho.

I'll second that vote for SureFire.

Which also happens to be how many I have....3.
Surefire is the glock of flashlights.

I have been wondering about that. Why such a push with the LEOs and Military for this?

Liability: "Of course I could see/identify the suspect, my light is attached to my firearm and instantly illuminates my target for identification..."

The Glock tactical light is a bit bulkier than the Insight X200, but it's about 1/2 the price also, depending on where you buy it. I have 2 of them and I managed to get them for $50 each. The bulbs will cost about $22 when they need to be replaced. They provide 60 lumens of white light and are good enough for lighting up rooms in your house.

If you can't see what you're shooting at, nothing else matters in low light situations.

The tactical lights for handguns are a bit of a mystery for me too in some ways...

They are useful in the fact that you can aquire your target in the pitch dark, momentarily flash them right in the eyeballs to thereby dazzle the enemy and kill their nightvision at close range, then take a shot if required.

However, if you know the enemy is hiding in a pitch dark room, you are going to avoid going up against them with a handgun, as who knows what they are packing. You want to be carrying a shotgun, carbine, or subgun to lay down serious firepower if required.

To me a tac light on a handgun is simply as a backup weapon for want of something better, or a spare torch for getting around in the dark. They are going to stuff up holster fit in most cases, requiring special holsters too, I would think. Not a problem if you don't holster your gun.... (?)

I think for many people, they are a bit of a fashion accessory.

Use of Firearm Offences [Canada]
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of criminal negligence causing death, manslaughter, attempted murder, aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, hostage-taking, robbery or extortion (minimum of four years, with maximum of life),
  • Causing bodily harm with intent using a firearm or sexual assault with a weapon (using a firearm) (minimum of four years, maximum of 14 years)
  • Use of firearm or imitation in the commission of an indictable offence (minimum of one year consecutive on first offence, three years consecutive on a second or subsequent offence, maximum of 14 years)
  • Pointing a firearm at another person (maximum of five years)

Putting a light on the end of your weapon will surely leave a clear, admissible in court and accepted by jury recollection "I remember the light flashing in my eyes!"

I agree with Eatbeef, it is a technique only useful for the rule maker's forces.
